COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK

College Application Week 2015 is November 2-6.

Student Services and the college advisor will host application sessions

in the Learning Commons during all classes Tuesday through Thursday.

Anatomy of a College Application 

 

College applications are made up of several elements. Each application requires different materials;

students should confirm the requirements for each application on universities' admissions websites. 

Biographical Information 

Basic info about yourself and your family, often including your social security number, birthplace, citizenship/resident status, all current and past addresses with moving dates, parental education history and employment

 

Academic Infomation

Scores and dates of college entrance exames (SAT, ACT) as well as AP tests, all courses (fall and spring) that you are taking or will take senior year, college courses taken for credit, school counselor name and email

 

Extracurricular Activities

What you've been involved in during high school, in and outside of Knightdale, including any leadership positions held

 

Honors/Awards 

Awards for academic work, as well as things like community service or national merit scholarships
 

Employment History

Paid work experience outside of school 

 

Disciplinary History

Self-reported record of all in-school and out-of-school offenses including criminal charges, suspensions, expulsions

Fee/Fee Waiver

Most four-year schools charge an application fee, which varies from school to school. Check with your counselor about waiver eligibility.

 

Essay/Personal Statement 

Usually fairly short in length, designed to give students an opportunity to add a more personal dimension to the application

 

Supplemental Material 

Ranges from additional essays and short answer questions to art portfolios and athlete's game footage 

 

Letters of Recommendation 

Secured in advance by students from teachers of core subjects (math, English, science, history) 

 

Transcript 

Summary of all high school courses taken and grades earned (Send free to all NC colleges through CFNC, three free, then $10 each to out-of-state schools through WCPSS Scriborder)

 

Résumé (not often required)

A list of recent accomplishments and relevant experiences, not to exceed one page
